Free Code 11 barcode generator.
Code 11 encodes digits and the dash on telecommunications equipment labels. Type the number and download the barcode.
How to create a Code 11 barcode
-
01
Type the number with its check digits
Enter digits and dashes as on the part, such as
0123-4567, plus any check digits: the generator calculates none. -
02
Match the module width to your printer
Set your printer's dpi and the module width in pixels: at 300 dpi, 3 pixels make 0.254 mm, TEC-IT's default size.
-
03
Set a 10-module quiet zone
The image ends at the outer bars unless you set one: 2.54 mm per side at that size.
What is a Code 11 barcode?
Code 11, also called USD-8, is a linear barcode for the digits 0 to 9 and the dash, used mainly on telecommunications equipment and components. TEC-IT recommends two check digits because Code 11 is not self-checking; this generator adds none.
Where Code 11 is used: telecom equipment
Code 11 marks equipment and components in telecommunications. Zebra label printers draw it with the ZPL command ^B1, which adds one or two check digits, two by default.
Zebra's DS2208 and DS8208 and Honeywell's Voyager 1450g ship with Code 11 switched off. AFP (Advanced Function Presentation), the document print architecture that began at IBM, has listed it as retired since 1992.
What the 2.24 and 3.48 ratios mean in print
Each Code 11 character is 7.48 modules plus a 1-module gap: the 0, 9 and dash use one wide element of 3.48 modules, the others two of 2.24. So 0123-4567 takes 92.3 modules; Code 128 needs 112.
With one or two wide elements per character, Code 11 is not self-checking. The uneven ratios also need a high-resolution printer: at 3 pixels per module, 2.24 modules become 6 or 7 pixels and 3.48 become 11.
Code 11 online and in TEC-IT software
Online, Code 11 is free as GIF, PNG or JPG; SVG and higher print resolution come with a plan. Single codes need no account; lists of equipment numbers go into a data sheet after a free sign-in.
TBarCode SDK and Barcode Studio calculate Code 11's one or two check digits. Barcode Studio also imports CSV files and counts up serial numbers.

When another barcode fits better
Takes letters, checks each character and always adds a check character: ten digits take 90 modules, Code 11 with two check digits 117.7.
The generator adds both check characters: 0123-4567 needs 118 modules, Code 11 with two check digits 109.2.
