What MicroPDF417 is for
MicroPDF417 (ISO/IEC 24728) is a multi-row barcode derived from PDF417, made for small areas, not maximum capacity: PDF417 holds more. It has 34 fixed sizes of 1 to 4 data columns, each with a fixed level of error correction.
MicroPDF417 in GS1 Composite and HIBC
In GS1 Composite symbols, CC-A is a MicroPDF417 variant and CC-B a MicroPDF417 symbol. Printed above an EAN/UPC, GS1 DataBar or GS1-128 barcode at the same module width, they add data such as expiry date and lot.
TEC-IT generates HIBC LIC and PAS MicroPDF417 for health industry suppliers, with the required modulo-43 check character.
How MicroPDF417 saves width
Instead of start and stop patterns, each row begins and ends with a 10-module row address pattern that also gives the row number; a 1-module bar closes the row. The quiet zone is 1 module, half of PDF417's.
Error correction comes with the size: 10 of the sample's 34 codewords. GS1 specifies rows at least 2 modules high in CC-A and CC-B; with a module width set, the generator draws 3.
