What is an NTIN?
An NTIN is a GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) whose item number a national agency assigns instead of the manufacturer. In Germany it is 0, GS1 Germany's prefix 4150, the 8-digit PZN and a check digit. A GS1 DataMatrix carries it under Application Identifier (AI) 01 as the product code of the EU safety features.
Which packs carry the NTIN: German and multi-market
In Germany, medicines subject to verification carry an NTIN or a PPN as product code, with serial number, batch and expiry date. Software can derive the PZN from either.
Packs for Germany and Austria can carry the NTIN with only four elements, because Austria looks up its national number in a table.
A full GTIN that keeps the PZN, at IFA's sizes
Germany's PZN agreement does not let a manufacturer's own GTIN replace the PZN. The NTIN brings the PZN into GS1 format as a full GTIN, in form and in logistics.
IFA allows modules of 0.25–0.99 mm with at least three clear modules on each side. At 0.339 mm (4 dots at 300 dpi), the example measures 5.42 mm, 7.46 mm with the quiet zone.
NTIN codes online, serial-number runs in TEC-IT software
Online, NTIN codes download free as PNG, GIF or JPG; a plan adds SVG and higher print resolution. Guests create one code at a time; a free sign-in turns a data sheet of serial numbers into codes.

Common NTIN input mistakes
- Dropping the 0 in front.
4150123456782is read as 13 data digits and becomes 41501234567828, a different GTIN. - Typing AI 01.
0104150123456782is refused; the generator adds the AI. - Expecting a PZN check. The check digit is tested, not 4150 or the PZN: check those yourself.
