AIAG label generator for B-10, B-3, B-5 and B-15 labels.
These bar-coded shipping and parts labels are used in North American automotive supply. Open the AIAG B-10 master label, fill it in and print it free.
How to print an AIAG B-10 label
-
01
Pick the B-10 template
Use Master for one part number per pallet, Mixed for several; Customer (4 × 5 in) for DLOC and plant/dock, Supplier (4 × 6 in) for addresses.
-
02
Copy the data from your ship notice
Enter part number, quantity and serial as in your advance ship notice (ASN). Use capitals: lowercase prints an error box in barcodes.
-
03
Print two copies at actual size
Print at 100%, not “fit to page”, to keep the 0.33 mm narrow bar. Attach the copies front and back (Harley-Davidson, 2024) or on adjacent sides (Carlex, 2019).
What is an AIAG label?
An AIAG label follows the barcode standards of the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), a not-for-profit association of North American vehicle makers and suppliers. AIAG's B-10 guideline describes shipping labels for unit loads and transport packages. TEC-IT offers eight templates: four B-10 labels (master or mixed, Customer or Supplier layout), two B-15 SCACTIL sizes for trailers, a B-3 shipping/parts label and a B-5 metals tag.
What the B-10 Customer Master label shows
Lines split the label into four bands. From the top: part number and quantity, a custom field and DLOC, master serial number and plant/dock, then MASTER LABEL and your supplier ID.
Four fields also print as Code 39 barcodes, 13 mm high, each led by its data identifier (DI): P, Q, the DI you enter (K in the sample) and 4S. The readable values omit the DI; the caption shows it in brackets, as in QUANTITY (Q).
Who asks for AIAG labels, and why
Harley-Davidson's requirements of November 2024 call for B-10 container, master and mixed load labels at all its sites. Nexteer Automotive (2022) and Carlex Glass America (2019) base their label standards on B-10; Briggs & Stratton (January 2025) still accepts AIAG B-3.
Harley-Davidson and Carlex tie the label data to your ASN for efficient receiving. Harley-Davidson, Nexteer and Carlex approve labels before use. Failures count: Harley-Davidson reports them in its supplier performance system, Briggs & Stratton in its quarterly rating.
Printing B-10 labels for every pallet
One label at a time needs no account: the label generator prints the copies you set. Many labels come from a data sheet, which needs a free sign-in: one row per pallet, serials filled in as a sequence.
In series supply, TFORMer Server prints on requests from SAP or Oracle, TFORMer Workstation from Excel or CSV lists. Where a customer wants Code 128, a PDF417 or a 3S container label, adapt the AIAG layout in TFORMer Designer.

- 4 × 6 in, close to A6
- Barcode
- Code 39 or Code 128, by customer

- Code 39 at 0.33 mm (Nexteer's minimum), except the B-3 date; SCACTIL in Code 128 at 0.7 mm
Before shipping: barcode, quiet zones, serials
- Barcode type. Harley-Davidson and Carlex want Code 128, Nexteer a PDF417 on every label; TEC-IT's B-10 templates print Code 39 only.
- Quiet zones. Nexteer wants 6.4 mm clear at each end. In the Customer Master, bars start 6 mm from the frame. A 9-character part number ends 1 mm before the next line, a 6-digit quantity 3.8 mm before the frame.
- Serials. Copies repeat the serial, so use them only for the two labels of one pallet. Keep numbers unique as long as your customer asks, 12 months at Nexteer.
How AIAG labels differ from related labels
VDA 4994 applies the Global Transport Label (GTL), AIAG's B-16. TEC-IT's VDA 4994 templates add a Code 128 license plate and a DataMatrix.
TEC-IT's OTL 1 templates print the same 0.33 mm Code 39, but on A5, with M and G instead of 4S and 5S.
TEC-IT's Caterpillar SP20 templates use the 3S, 4S and 5S package IDs on 4 × 6 in, in Code 128.
What to enter in each B-10 Customer Master field
TEC-IT's template prints no field numbers; 1–8 follow the markers on the image above, band by band. Captions appear as printed, except the custom field, which prints the title you type. Max. gives the characters that fit each barcode at the 0.33 mm narrow bar; longer values print an error box instead.
| No. | Field | Caption on the label | Content | Barcode | Max. length |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Part number | PART # CUST (P) | Your customer's part number, in 32-point type above its barcode. | Code 39 (DI P) | 9 |
| 2 | Quantity | QUANTITY (Q) | Parts in the package; on a master label, the total of all packages on the pallet. | Code 39 (DI Q) | 6 |
| 3 | Custom field | Customer Field: Title | A field your customer defines: you enter its title, DI and data. The sample prints P.O. # (K) for the purchase order number. | Code 39 (your DI) | 10 after a one-letter DI |
| 4 | DLOC | DLOC | The code the editor calls Material Handling Code, printed large without a barcode. | — | — |
| 5 | Master serial number | SERIAL # MASTER (4S) | The number you give the pallet, unique for as long as your customer asks. | Code 39 (DI 4S) | 10 |
| 6 | Plant/dock | PLT/DOCK | Receiving plant and dock from your customer's release; Nexteer (2022) sends it in its DELJIT or 862 schedule. | — | — |
| 7 | Label type | MASTER LABEL | Fixed text in 32-point type; the Mixed template prints MIXED LABEL instead. | — | — |
| 8 | Supplier ID | SUPPLIER ID: | The supplier number your customer assigned you, printed as text only. | — | — |
Which AIAG template to open
Four B-10 layouts and the B-3 and B-5 labels print Code 39, the two SCACTIL sizes Code 128. None of them checks your input, and none is a B-10 container label with 3S, which Nexteer (2022) calls the most common type.
