Print Server not reachable via external Spool Admin (DCOM client)

You start the DCOM-based TFORMer Monitor ("Spool Admin") from an external machine, enter the hostname of the TFORMer Server (TFORMer Server ➜ Add), but cannot connect — an error (red) is displayed.

Solution

The external user must be added to the DCOM permissions of the TFORMer Server.

• On the TFORMer Server, open the menu Tools ➜ Computer Management in the Server Manager console.
• In Computer Management, go to Local Users and Groups and click Groups.
• Add the external user account to the Distributed COM Users group.
• Adjust the DCOM security settings on the TFORMer Server. To do this, run the DCOMCNFG tool.
• Grant the external user or the entire DCOM group launch permissions on the Print Server DCOM object.
• Grant the external user or the entire DCOM group access permissions on the Print Server DCOM object.
